Una simulació permet predir arítmies causades per nous candidats a fàrmacs
La toxicitat que provoquen alguns fàrmacs sobre els òrgans vitals com ara el cor, el fetge o el cervell, representa un dels grans obstacles per a l'èxit en el desenvolupament de nous medicaments. Els nous mètodes de predicció per simulació computacional obren nous horitzons en aquest camp.
Manuel Pastor, coordinador del grup de recerca de Disseny de Fàrmacs Assistit per Ordinador del GRIB (IMIM-UPF) ha dirigit un treball realitzat amb Ferran Sanz, Director del GRIB, amb membres del grup de Bioelectrònica de la Universitat Politècnica de València, publicat al Journal of Chemical Information and Modeling que, a més, serà portada de l'edició impresa.

IV Conferencia Anual de las Plataformas Tecnológicas de Investigación Biomédica: Medicamentos Innovadores, Nanomedicina y Tecnología Sanitaria: Fomentando la cooperación Farma-Biotech.
La cita anual de las tres Plataformas Tecnológicas de Investigación Biomédica abordará la cooperación farma-biotech, como una necesidad puesta de manifiesto en el modelo de investigación de nuevos medicamentos y tecnologías sanitarias. FIMIM, coordinador junto con Farmaindustria de la Plataforma Española de Medicamentos Innovadores, patrocina esta conferencia que tendrá lugar en el Palacio Municipal de Congresos de Madrid, Avda. de la Capital de España s/n Campo de las Naciones. World-wide challenge of the structural prediction of a G-protein coupled receptor complex (GPCR DOCK 2010)
The honour of the best structural prediction for a dopaminergic G-protein coupled receptor in complex with a small ligand goes to the members of the Computer-Assisted Drug Design group (CADD) from GRIB (IMIM-UPF), Laura López, Cristian Obiol-Pardo and Jana Selent. The model submitted by the CADD group has obtained the first position among more than 100 models submitted by several institutions in this world-wide challenge – GPCR DOCK 2010 - organized by the Scripps Institute of California.

Jordi Mestres at the Editorial Board of the new publication "Scientific Reports"
Jordi Mestres, head of Chemogenomics laboratory of GRIB (IMIM-UPF) has been appointed member of the Editorial Board of Scientific Reports, the new primary research publication from the publishers of Nature, covering all areas of the natural sciences –biology, chemistry, physics, and earth sciences.
Scientific Reports is now open for submissions. The journal will publish its first papers in summer 2011.

Celebrada la Jornada de valorización y transferencia de tecnología
El pasado 25 de enero se celebró en Barcelona la Jornada de valorización y transferencia de tecnología. Esta actividad, organizada por el GRIB (IMIM-UPF), se enmarca dentro de las actividades previstas por la Plataforma Tecnológica Española de Medicamentos Innovadores (PTMI) para el 2011. Al acto asistieron más de un centenar de personas tanto del ámbito académico (fundaciones, centro de investigación, parques científicos y tecnológicos, etc.) como del sector privado (empresas biotecnológicas y farmacéuticas). Los diversos ponentes remarcaron la creciente necesidad de valorizar las tecnologías, a la vez que se reclamaban más y mejores herramientas para ello. La mesa redonda contó con la participación de todos los actores de la cadena de valor del proceso de transferencia de tecnología. GRIB and CRG organize the new PRBB Structural Biology Seminar Series
The new PRBB structural biology seminar series are focused on structural biology at the PRBB. It will complement other seminars in the PRBB like the computational biology series focused on bioinformatics and the technical seminars.
Seminars will last only 25-30 minutes which is a sufficient amount of time to convey the message from the speaker. There is not a fixed day for it, so to take advantage of visitors as much as possible.
The first seminar will take place tomorrow, 21st of January at 11:00 AM at PRBB room UPF (3ª planta) 300.08/350.08 an verse about "The modulation of the endocannabinoid system by membranes"

Jornada de valorización y transferencia de tecnología: la necesidad de la cooperación público-privada
La jornada está organizada por el GRIB (IMIM-UPF) en colaboración con la Plataforma Tecnológica Española de Medicamentos Innovadores y tendrá lugar el 25 de enero de 2011 en Barcelona en el Hotel Skiper (Avda. Litoral, 10).
El objetivo de este evento es debatir sobre los elementos esenciales de la valorización y la transferencia de tecnología y conocimiento como pasos esenciales en el proceso de I+D de nuevos medicamentos a partir de proyectos que se desarrollan en el ámbito académico. Se adjunta programa.
La asistencia es gratuita, pero las plazas limitadas por el aforo de la sala, por lo que se recomienda realizar cuanto antes la inscripción.

"'To be or not to be, that is the question': The role of the ZRF1 gene in embryonic and cancer development"
The work, published in the journal Nature, was led by the ICREA professor Luciano Di Croce (CRG), with the participation of Núria López-Bigas and Gunes Gundem, head and predoctoral research respectively of the Biomedical Genomics laboratory of GRIB (IMIM/ UPF) and shows that the gene ZRF1 carries out a crucial role in the activation of genes related to the cellular destination of stem cells.
The project was financed by the Minister of Science and Innovation through the Plan Nacional de Investigación, Desarrollo e Innovación and by the Association for International Cancer Research.

Ignasi Buch granted at the MGMS Young Modellers' Forum 2010
Ignasi Buch, member of the Computational Biophysics laboratory of GRIB (IMIM-UPF) was granted with the"best presentation award" in the MGMS Young Modellers' Forum 2010 celebrated in London last 10th of December.
The presentation title was "Energetics, kinetics and binding pathway reconstruction for enzyme-inhibitor complex from high-throughput MD simulations". See abstract (talk7).

El Laboratori de Biofísica Computacional del GRIB (IMIM-UPF) estudia les proteïnes a través de simulacions per ordinador per saber com funcionen i com interactuen amb els fàrmacs. Ver video.
