The European project @neurIST has been called to negotiation by the European Commission
The European Commission has just made official its approval to the take off of the project “@neurIST: Integrated Biomedical Informatics for the Management of Cerebral Aneurysm”, where the Research Unit on Biomedical Informatics – GRIB (IMIM/UPF) will significantly contribute with its expertise on Bioinformatics and management of the whole project
Presentation of the Spanish Technology Platform for Innovative Medicines
Last 6th of July the Spanish Technology Platform for Innovative Medicines was presented at the Research Unit on Biomedical Informatics (GRIB) of IMIM/UPF premises in Barcelona. This initiative is managed by researchers and members of the pharmaceutical industry from all Spain, and promoted among others by Dr. Ferran Sanz (Head of the GRIB), Farmaindustria, LEIA Foundation, Zeltia and the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM).

Decoded The Genome Of The Rat
By the end of march, an international team of scientists presented the genome of the rat, an advance that in the short term will help to understand better how the human body works and in the long term will help to improve the treatment of a great number of illnesses. Two Spanish research groups have participated in the investigation, the Research Group on Genome Bioinformatics of the Research Unit on Biomedical Informatics of the Institut Municipal d´ Investigació Mèdica of Barcelona (IMIM) and another research group of the University of Oviedo.

European Virtual Institute for Genome Annotation receives 12 million euro funding from the European Commission
The European Commission (EC) has awarded 12 million euro to 24 bioinformatics groups in 14 countries to form a pan-European “BioSapiens Network of Excellence in Bioinformatics”; one of the groups is the Research Group on Genome Bioinformatics from the Research Unit on Biomedical Informatics (GRIB) coordinated by Roderic Guigó.
