The GRIB has recently updated its website, including a new design as well as updated contents on the GRIB research, its composition and the location at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park. This new website aims to provide an easier access to all the GRIB-related information (papers, projects, research lines, etc).
On January 26th, the Unit on Biomedical Informatics (GRIB) received the visit of a group of students from IES Montserrat Miró i Vilà. This visit gave to school students the chance to learn more about our Research Unit and Biomedical Informatics in general.
Dr. Gianni de Fabritiis, a scientist of the Research Unit on Biomedical Informatics (GRIB), has demonstrated the possibility of using game consoles for helping research in health sciences. The Computational Biochemistry Laboratory was able to run molecular simulations of proteins at unprecedented speed on the Playstation3 processor.
This award recognizes the work of a young investigator in QSAR and modelling with the expectation that they will continue to advance the field for many years to come. Dr. Mestres was chosen from a field of very able researchers.
Last 21st of September of 2006, two members of the European Court of Auditors, Mr. Giorgio Pascualucci and Mr.Mauro Olivera, visited the Research Unit on Biomedical Informatics (GRIB) in order to audit the INFOBIOMED project.

The Research Unit on Biomedical Informatics (GRIB) , coordinator of the Network of Excellence INFOBIOMED, organises the 3rd edition of the INFOBIOMED Training Challenge, which will take place in Edinburgh (UK) from the 2nd to the 6th of October 2006. The third edition will be hosted by the University of Edinburgh, which is also a partner of the INFOBIOMED Network of Excellence. The broad topic of this Challenge will be the study of host-pathogen interactions.
After two successful summer schools organised by the Semantic Mining project in 2004 and 2005, the three ongoing Networks of Excellence working in the field of biomedical informatics have decided to organise a joint event, where experts and PhD students can exchange their experiences and ideas. These projects are BioPattern, INFOBIOMED, and SemanticMining, all three funded by the European Community Information Society Technology programme, within the Sixth Framework Programme.
The Research Unit on Biomedical Informatics (GRIB/IMIM-UPF) has participated in the "VII Annual Meeting of Technology and Knowledge Transfer Networks" which took place in the World Trade Center of Barcelona on the 13th of June, organized by the Centre for Innovation and Business Development (CIDEM) of the Catalan Government.
Today, 2nd of June 2006, has taken place the closing session of the Second INFOBIOMED Training Challenge, an initiative coordinated by the GRIB and organized by the European Network of Excellence INFOBIOMED to promote the consolidation of Biomedical Informatics (BMI).
