Dr. Mestres will be joining the IMIM from Organon where he served as Head of the Computational Medicinal Chemistry group (2000-2003, Newhouse, UK) and as Research Scientist in the Molecular Design and Informatics group (1997-2000, Oss, The Netherlands).
Prior to joining Organon, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the Computer-Aided Drug Design group at Pharmacia&Upjohn (1996, Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA). Dr. Mestres earned a Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry from the University of Girona and received a M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Chemistry from the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
The research lines of the new Chemogenomics Laboratory will primarily focus at this stage around integrating chemo- and bio-structural data, exploiting ligand-based information in molecular docking and protein modelling, and designing compound libraries targeted to entire (sub)families of proteins.
