Robert Castelo

Robert Castelo is associate professor of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona (Spain) and head of the Functional Genomics group of the IMIM-UPF joint Research Programme on Biomedical Informatics (GRIB). He got his PhD in Computer Science by the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands, in 2002. Between 2002 and 2006, he worked as a postdoc and lecturer at the DCEXS-UPF/CRG research lab of Roderic Guigó. In 2006 he was awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Science a "Ramon y Cajal" research fellowship, to start his own independent research at DCEXS/UPF where, in 2012, became associate professor. Author of more than 40 JCR articles in the fields of statistics, machine learning, computational and molecular biology. Currently teaching bioinformatics and biostatistics computational biology at undergraduate level and analysis of high-throughput genomics data within the MSc on Bioinformatics for Health Sciences.

Research interests

The research focus of the Functional Genomics group led by Robert Castelo is the development of statistical and computational methods and pipelines for the analysis and comprehension of high-throughput genetics and genomics data, motivated by questions of biological and clinical relevance.
